Mrs. Youmans’ class put their opinion writing skills to work this week! Students learned all about primary and secondary sources and even conducted their own field research to gather information about playgrounds in our community.
After completing their research, students were tasked with creating a brochure that clearly stated their claim and supported it with evidence. Then came the big moment—they presented their brochures and arguments to the class! They all did a wonderful job!
Today Hannah Owens' class at Holly Harshman Elementary did an interactive lab over chemical changes. The lab is then pouring baking soda into vinegar & observing the 4 signs of chemical change.
Rylie Wayman made it to 100 points! Woo hoo! We are celebrating her by giving her $10 in Bearcat Bucks! Way to go, Rylie!
We have had a great week at the Holly Harshman Library for Grandparent's Read Week! We had amazing helpers from Middle School and we appreciate them so much!
MHS Student Council would like to invite all MPS students and staff to our annual Homecoming Pep Rally on Friday, September 25th beginning at 9am in the Union Bank Center. The theme is RED OUT! We can't wait to see you there!

The District Convocation was held on Monday morning in the Performing Arts Center. District employees heard from representatives from Arkansas Teacher Retirement and Air Evac plus new employees at each campus were introduced.
The keynote speaker was Mr. Jason Curry. Jason founded Finish Empty®, a leadership company dedicated to equipping people in every environment. Through speaking, training, and coaching, he develops athletes, strengthens teams, inspires individuals, guides businesses, and supports organizations committed to excellence and impact.
In June of 2025, Jason released his debut book, Finish Empty®. That same month, he was named Life Coach of the Year by AY Magazine, recognizing his influence in personal growth and leadership development.
The staff continues final preparations for the 2026-2027 school year which begins on Wednesday, August 12th.

Mena Athletes from Louise Durham Elementary, Holly Harshman Elementary, Mena Middle School and Mena High School are participating in the Area 14 Special Olympics today in the Hensley Activity Center and Bob Carver Bearcat Stadium.
