Louise Durham students really enjoyed the first day of Red Ribon Week ! Today was America Monday & Tuesday will be Pajama Day!!!

National School Bus Safety Week was the result of a letter-writing campaign to President Nixon in 1969. Founded by Dick Fischer, a former school district transportation director in California, the first NSBSW was held in 1970. In 1975, the National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT) was founded. The NAPT, along with the National School Transportation Association (NSTA) and National Association of State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services (NASDPT), hosts National Bus Safety Week each year.

During the 2nd full week in October, National School Lunch Week shines the spotlight on the programs and nutritious food served up every day throughout the school year.
Many cafeteria staff often know a child’s eating habits as well as a parent does. They often know each child by name.
At the Mena Public Schools we appreciate our friends at Aramark for feeding our students a delicious & nutritious meal every school day !

“You should read this book I just finished! It was so funny!
The squid thought he was bigger than everything in the ocean but he realized when he met the whale he wasn’t and being kind is important!”

FM101 is a low power radio station operated by the Mena Public Schools. Our goal is to communicate with district patrons about the information & news they need from the Mena Public Schools. If you live in Mena you are at the core of the FM101 listening area but you can also listen beyond the city limits & over a significant part of Polk County. Your reception will depend on surrounding terrain & the quality of your receiver. Be sure to tell your friends about the new & improved FM101. GO BEARCATS !!!

There is power in sharing about books we have read and loved with others! We are learning to do Booktalks at Louise Durham.
📚Booktalks not only create excitement, provide others with great reading suggestions but is also a very powerful way to spread the joy we have about reading!
“I loved Bad Kitty’s Vacation! It was a hilarious book. You should read this new book because he will make you laugh throughout the story”
~Casten

Parents who are curious about the "Test to Stay" option for students who are close contacts to remain in school need to know that it is not automatically in effect. It is going to take a couple of weeks for the state to prepare schools for this. We will inform parents when it becomes an option. For more information go to this link: https://www.arkansasonline.com/news/2021/sep/29/governor-unveils-quarantine-options/
