MEAL FORM
As part of a coordinated response to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Division of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) in partnership with the Office for Education Policy (OEP) at the University of Arkansas has developed a Parent/Guardian Survey for soliciting family input on what is working now and what may be considered for the future. We encourage you to share the survey link with your families and ask them to complete the survey before November 20th. A Spanish version of the survey is available here. The survey seeks to involve families in an organized, ongoing and timely way in planning, review, and improvement. The survey will provide feedback regarding: * family concerns * how families are making decisions * family awareness of options and resources available * family considerations for the future The intention of this survey is not to identify individual school or district responses, but rather to establish an understanding of the state as a whole. The information will be aggregated by region only; therefore, families will be asked to identify the region of the state in which they live in order to understand the distribution of the survey without specifically identifying any district or school by name. OEP will be sharing results at the December State Board meeting. Follow this link to the Survey:https://uark.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6X7aRF3ErNNXFel... Mena Public Schools Blended Spotlight! Many new things have become a part of the learning process during the 20/21 school year. One of those is the arrival of “Blended Learning”. When a student & parent select this path it means that they will be learning at home with the option of returning to traditional school. It is structured to match the traditional school day to ease the transition back into the traditional classroom. It is not an easy road to take but some students actually thrive. Such is the case with Kyleigh Johnson. Kyleigh is a senior at Mena High School & her mother, Dena Johnson, said “It has been a challenge because she has to prioritize her school work while also working 30 hours per week.” Johnson is an employee at the Mena Wal Mart Super Center & also on the honor roll at MHS. Kyleigh is doing a great job taking advantage of all her opportunities as a Blended Bearcat !

Tuesday, November 17, 2020 A little about March of Dimes from their website: 80 years ago, President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s personal struggle with polio led to the creation of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, better known as March of Dimes. They pioneered the vaccine research leading to the eradication of polio in the U.S. After that time they shifted their focus to some of the other health threats for moms and babies such as birth defects and other infant health problems. Premature birth, which is considered birth before 37 weeks of pregnancy, and its complications are the #1 cause of death of babies in the United States. Babies who survive premature birth often have long-term health problems, including cerebral palsy, intellectual disabilities, chronic lung disease, blindness and hearing loss. In the United States, about 380,000 babies are born prematurely each year. The preterm birth rate is 9.8 percent in the United States. This means 1 in 10 babies is born too soon. Arkansas received an F on the March of Dimes report card for their preterm birth rate which is 11.9%. Each of those preterm births cost around 65 thousand dollars. March of Dimes has many partners and supporters who participate in their campaigns, contribute research and donate to their funds. They have the BlanketChange campaign, the Send a Note of Hope and It Starts with Mom Live activities and most recently the Mom and Baby COVID-19 Intervention and Support Fund as well as many other ways to support and participate. Get Involved and Support Healthy Moms and Strong Babies Clubs & Activities: Monday - Tuesday - 10th grade ETS bandroom Wednesday - Thursday - Quiz Bowl Practice in room 211 during Enrichment Friday - Sports: Monday - Tuesday - Junior High Basketball will play AT Mountain Pine Wednesday - Thursday - Friday - TUESDAY: If you are participating in the March of Dimes fundraiser today by wearing a beanie or hat and have not donated your $1, please see Mrs. Torix in Rm 202 right after these announcements. WEDNESDAY: FBLA would like to thank all of the teachers and students that donated to March of Dimes yesterday. We raised over $50 for this cause.
