The Mena Ladycats will be playing in the second round of the district tournament in Malvern this evening.
Career Center Machine Tool program at the college will not meet today, Thursday, February 20th
Bearcat Senior Marc Wilson will be signing his letter of intent this morning at 11:00 to play college football at Henderson State University. The signing ceremony will be held in the Union Bank Center.
HUB Program Applications are available in Mrs. Buckley's office. If you are interested in the HUB program for 2020-2021, you are welcome to pick up an application in the office.

To all Seniors: please complete the Who’s Who Ballot that is in the Class of 2020 Google Classroom this week. We had less than 50% of the Senior Class complete the ballot the first time, so the yearbook staff has a revised Who’s Who Ballot that all Seniors need to complete by the end of the day Friday. The results will be part of the 2020 MHS Yearbook.
Also, Seniors, please complete the Mr. and Ms. Bearcat ballot on Google Classroom by Monday. These results will also be part of the 2020 MHS Yearbook.
JAG Work Applications (upcoming juniors and seniors) are available for next year's JAG Work class. You can pick up an application from Mrs. Purvis (room 403), counseling center, or online at karenpurvis.wixsite.com/mhsjag. Return applications to Mrs. Purvis or Mrs. Thacker or Enrichment teacher. Priority deadline is this Friday, February 21.
If you did not order your 2020 Yearbook yet, see Mr. Philpot in room 205 for more information.

The Ladycats will play Nashville in the 7-4A District Basketball Tournament on Thursday at 4:00pm in Malvern.
By advancing to the semi-finals Mena has also secured a spot in next week's 4A South Regional Tournament at Crossett.

Students: If you are coming in late to 1st period, you must go to the office and sign in, teachers, please send them to the office to sign in if they don’t have an admit slip (either white or blue). Also if you are coming in at the end of 1st period, you will still receive an unexcused tardy. Also, this does not just pertain to 1st and 2nd period, you will only get an excused tardy if you have a doctor’s note.
HUB Program Applications are available in Mrs. Buckley's office. If you are interested in the HUB program for 2020-2021, you are welcome to pick up an application in the office.

There is a mandatory meeting for all who are trying out for cheer during Enrichment today. If you are planning on trying out for the 2020-2021 Cheer squad, you must attend the meeting or speak with Coach Hughes in advance if you are not able to attend.


Assistant Superintendent Paulette Sherrer presented the Mena School Board with a proposed school calendar for the next two years that had the approval of 92% of the staff. The board Unanimously approved that calendar for 20/21 and 21/22.



The Mena School Board conducted their February meeting Tuesday night at the administration building.
Superintendent Benny Weston began the meeting by thanking the board for allowing him to attend the AASA National Conference in San Diego CA recently. Weston represented the state as the Arkansas Superintendent of the Year & described it as a once in a lifetime experience.
Assistant Superintendent Paulette Sherrer them presented the board with a proposed school calendar for the next two years that had the approval of 92% of the staff. The board Unanimously approved that calendar for 20/21 and 21/22.
Maintenance Supervisor, Danny Minton, addressed the board on facilities. Repairs continue on various systems that were damaged by a lightning strike at the baseball field. Including the removal of the damaged light pole. Delivery of Other material for the baseball facility has been postponed due to wet weather. Also the recent heavy rains have exposed a few leaks at Louise Durham Elementary & they are being dealt with.
At this point in the meeting there was discussion about limiting the number of foreign exchange students. No action was taken & it was decided that it would be left to the administrations discretion.
The board accepted the resignation of Molly Lindsey & Freda Moore. They also unanimously approved extending all administrative contracts before adjourning.


The Ladycats defeated Hope 51-44 Tuesday in the 7-4A District Basketball Tournament at Malvern.. Mena will advance to play Nashville at 4pm Thursday. Go Ladycats!


The Basscats competed in the Trader Bills High School Tournament on Lake Greeson on Sunday. Burger and Head took 4th place while Johnston and Cannon took 7th place in the High School Division. The Basscats will be back in action on Lake Greeson on Saturday in the Arkansas Youth Fishing Federation Tournament.

The Mena FFA will have their annual Greenhand Ceremony On Thursday, Feb. 20, during Enrichment. This is for all 1st year FFA Members & will take place in the Ag Building.
On Friday, Feb. 21, the Mena FFA will host their annual teacher appreciation breakfast before school.

The Mena Bearcats basketball season came to an end Monday with a 40-43 loss to DeQueen in the 7-4A District Tournament.
The Ladycats will open tournament play Tuesday at 4pm when they play Hope. Games are being played at Malvern.


Gameday Monday!


The Sr. High District Basketball Tournament will be played at Malvern this week. The Bearcats first game is Monday & the Ladycats first game is Tuesday. See the complete bracket below..GO BEARCATS!



The Ladycats & Bearcats played their final conference games at Arkadelphia Friday night. The girls won their game 47-33 & the boys lost by a score of 43-56. Both Mena teams will play in the 7-4A District Tournament at Malvern next week.


Mena Superintendent Benny Weston is representing Arkansas in San Diego at the National AASA Conference.


The Mena Jr. Ladycats are champions of the 7-4A Jr. District Tournament. The girls defeated Nashville by a score of 26-22 in the finals Friday night. Go Ladycats!

The yearbook staff has extended sales of the 2020 MHS Yearbook for a limited time. You can still order a non-personalized 2020 yearbook for $60, but the final day to order will be by the end of the school day today. See Mr. Philpot in room 205 to order with cash or check.
Special Olympic Polar Plunge is scheduled for this morning at 11:30 a.m. in the Student Parking Lot. There will also be a Unified Champion Schools Assembly in the PAC, which students will be dismissed from class to attend at 10:30 this morning.

There will be no school tomorrow, February 14, and Monday, February 17, will be CAPS conferences scheduling day.
Valentine Deliveries will be in room 316 by the bus loading zone door. Students may pick up deliveries at the end of the day or upon check-out. Lists will be posted outside 316 and the office, your name will be highlighted if you have a delivery. The list will also be in google docs, the document has been shared via email.


The Mena Jr. Ladycats will play Nashville in the district tournament championship game tonight at 6pm in Nashville.. GO LADYCATS!!!
