The State Project Prevent Team was at Mena Middle School today to help our local team spread the nicotine free message. Student’s signed pledges to be nicotine free, played games and won digital cameras.


UA Rich Mountain Science Fair winners middle school level:
2nd place $100 prize went to Jakob Hostetler and Wyatt Head for their coding project.
Honorable mention $50 Walmart gift card went to Vaughn Vacca for his coding project.


Lauren Frost and Leilani Rose completed the Arkansas Game and Fish Fishing in the Natural State training today. This training is required for schools to participate in the grant funded program and for schools to host fishing derbies. The pair learned the most from the fish dissection portion of the training.


Mena Middle School students attended the 2023 Girls of Promise conference last week. Madison Rowe, Nevaeh Day, Jasmine Parker and Faith Tucker were accepted to attend the STEM event. They were chaperoned by Mrs. Billings.


Mena hosted the Area 14 Special Olympics on Wednesday at Bob Carver Bearcat Stadium. Mena students attended the opening ceremony and volunteered at the event that featured athletes from around the area.


MMS teachers entertained students today by getting pied in the face. Thanks to Coach Valencia, Coach Collins and Ms. Martin for being good sports!


The Mena Middle School Project Prevent Team hosted the annual Easter Egg Relay this week. Each grade competed to see who could learn the most about the dangers of tobacco/nicotine. Each egg was filled with facts: the team with the most facts gathered won a treat and a chance at a Dance Pass.


Fastcats is coming!


The Mena Middle School Project Prevent Team is reading the book Smoking Stinks by Kim Gosselin to the 5th graders at Holly Harshman Elementary this week. The team is encouraging the class of 2030 to remain nicotine free. The Team also challenged the HHE students to enter the 2023 My Reason to Write essay competition.


Mena Middle School student Bryant Thomas placed 1st in the division IV-8th grade Mena Elks Americanism Essay Contest. He was awarded a certificate and a $50 Wal-Mart gift card. His essay will advance to the state competition. Sammy Fagan and Brayden Wilson were presented with a certificate of participation for their outstanding essays. Thank you to the Mena Elks and Phyllis Caldwell for the opportunity for our students to share their talents.

Today we celebrated all of our students at LD, HHE, and MMS for attending school all week! Students that attended all week were put into a drawing for a Papa's Mexican Cafe Gift Card!

Today Mena Middle School Celebrated our Annual “Pick”le your Choices Wisely Day. Students traded a pledge to be spit/chew tobacco free for a pickle.


To promote National Through with Chew week the Mena Middle School Project Prevent Team treated the faculty with popcorn, water and tobacco prevention messages.


Mena School resource officers and school personnel attended a workshop entitled "Strategic Communication for Interacting with Juveniles" at the DeQueen Mena Education Service Cooperative on Friday. These employees spend much of their daily activities in communication with students. This course provided participants with a foundation in strategically communicating with juveniles. Topics covered include using active listening skills, rapport building, verbal judo, teen brain development and de-escalation tactics for use in dealing with conflict.


At Thursday's meeting of the Rotary Club, Dr Lee Smith and Bridgett Buckley of Mena Schools told us about a new disciplinary program implemented by the school system. They work with prosecuting attorney Debra Buschman's office to help the students achieve a positive outcome and a new direction for their lives. Mena Public Schools
