The Mena 7th Grade Ladycats dominated the Waldron Relays on Monday. The girls finished 1st as a team & they were paced by EMMI HENSLEY who won the girls High Point placing 1st in the 100m dash, 200m dash, 5th in long jump, 4th in triple jump and 1st and 2nd in her relays. LANIE TAYLOR won the 800 meter run & JOBE PAISLEY won the 1600 meter run.
The 7th Grade Bearcats also had a good outing. CHANCE HUGHES won the triple jump & the Bearcats also won the 4x400 meter relay.

Mena Middle School FBLA students qualifying for state competitions spent their day attending the leadership conference and competing with other students across the state at the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock.
DAX MCMELLON received 3rd place overall in the state for the FBLA Mid-Level Digital Citizenship competition. Congratulations Dax!

The 2022 Girls of Promise Conference was held in Little Rock on April 1. Mena Middle School had three young ladies chosen to attend. Mrs. Luttmer, 8th grade science teacher, chaperoned Breanna Crider, Kenzie Davis and Allison Howard to this awesome event. Each reported having had a great time learning from amazing women in STEAM fields from across the state.

The Jr. High Track Teams competed at the Mansfield Tiger Relays on Thursday.
The Jr. Ladycats finished tied for first place in the team standings & were led by ELLIOT DUGAN with a first place finish in the high jump & the 100 meter hurdles. The Mena 4x400 & 4x800 meter relays teams also won those events.
The Jr. Bearcats were led by ELIJAH SMITH who finished first in the triple jump & 2nd in the high jump.

Mena Jr. and Sr. High Ladycat Basketball had their first Spring Ladycat Night on Tuesday. The girls competed in a Freethrow Contest and 5 on 5. Local businesses have sponsored prizes for the winners. Tonight's sponsors were Wendy's, Chiquitas and Simple Simons.

Ashley Curbow, Coordinator for the Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Program, is presenting on the dangers of tobacco use and vaping to 7th graders at Mena Middle School. MMS 8th graders will receive the presentation on Wednesday.

Mena Middle School 8th graders attended Career Day at the University or Arkansas Rich Mountain on Friday.

Mena High School & Mena Middle School students were treated to a performance of "The History Show" by a group from TheatreSquared on Friday in the Performing Arts Center.

Tracy Floyd and Amy Martin represented Mena School District at the University of Arkansas Teacher’s Fair in Conway on Friday.

Governor Hutchinson has declared March 7-11 as G.U.I.D.E. for Life Week in the state of Arkansas in conjunction with International Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Day on March 11. Mena Middle School focuses on SEL throughout the year with weekley lessons using the Character Strong program. Students are also exposed to all of the personal competency standards outlined in the G.U.I.D.E for life in daily classroom activities throughout the year. This week at MMS’s special SEL enrichment activities include the Lifetime Wellness class working on the personal competency standard INTERACTION. Students worked with Mrs. Rose and Mrs. Watts on understanding group dynamics and responding appropriately within a group. In Mrs. Frost Family and Consumer Science Investigations class students are working on goal setting focusing on the personal competency standard GROWTH. Also Mrs. Shelley hosted a small group in MMS HIVE for a presentation by guests Candace Reiner, Shelby Godwin and Pam Godwin covering personal competency UNDERSTANDING focused on personal care. #ARGUIDEforLife, @arkansas_ed

The Jr. High track meet that was scheduled at Booneville today has been rescheduled for April 14th.
The next meet is scheduled for Tuesday, March 8th at DeQueen.

This morning during Achieve 8th grade FFA members held the Discovery Degree Ceremony. They are so excited about getting to dye to their hands green next year that they wanted to do blue and gold!
