Announcements for Thursday, October 1 st
I. A big welcome to Mrs. Lauren Frost who joins the MMS family today as the new Family CSI
teacher!
II. From Mrs. Sikes: Tomorrow is the deadline for 7 th & 8 th grade students to join FBLA.
III. From Mrs. Rose: If you signed up for the Bearcats Against Destructive Decisions (BADD)
club, will have your first meeting tomorrow during ACHIEVE. The meeting will take place
outside at the benches.
IV. Reminders:
Flu shot forms are due today.
Immunizations, or proof that an appointment for immunizations has been made, are due
today.
Starting next week, 6 th grade Quiz Bowl will meet every Monday during ACHIEVE and
7 th / 8 th grade will meet every Tuesday.
V. The outside trash is piling up. Styrofoam cartons, chip bags, etc, are littering the outside
area. Every person that leaves trash laying around is a vote to prohibit food and drink from
being allowed outside.
VI. Next week is Homecoming week at Mena High School. Since there will not be a
Homecoming Pep Rally this year, MMS will be participating in the dress up days that will be
a part of next week’s Homecoming Spirit Week. You will see fliers on the Library windows
describing what the dress up theme will be for each day.
Monday – “Disney”: Dress as your favorite Disney character
Tuesday – “Mathathlete vs Athlete”: Dress like a nerd or your favorite athlete
Wednesday – “Cowboys vs Aliens”: Dress like a cowboy / cowgirl or alien
Thursday – “Senioritis”: Dress like an elderly person
Friday – “Red Out”: Wear as much red as possible

Announcements for Tuesday, September 29 th
I. School pictures are happening now. We started with 6 th grade and will follow with 7 th , then
8 th . You will be told when it’s time for you to go. Remember, you do not have to purchase
pictures but everyone needs to have their photo taken for the yearbook and to have a
current photo on file. Do not take your backpacks with you. If you are ordering pictures
today, be sure to take your order form with you.
II. From Mrs. Sims: Starting next week, the 6 th grade Quiz Bowl team will have practice every
Monday and 7 th & 8 th grade Quiz Bowl teams will practice every Tuesday. Practices will
take place during ACHIEVE, in the Conference Room next to Mrs. Rose’s office. On those
days, report to your ACHIEVE teacher first. Once announcements have been read, you will
be dismissed for practice.
III. Reminders:

Announcements for Friday, September 25 th
I. We will be conducting a Tornado Drill today near the end of 3 rd period. Today’s drill will be
for 6 th grade only. The alarm for a tornado is 3 short bells, repeated 3 times. When you
hear this alarm, 6 th grade students and staff will evacuate to the MMS Safe Room. Be sure
and look at the Tornado Evacuation Route Map posted in your 3 rd period classroom.
II. Students, if you have to go home with a fever, you are not allowed to return to school until
you have been fever – free for at least 24 hours.
III. Reminders:

Required immunizations must be completed by next Thursday, October 1 st .
Flu shot forms are available on a table outside of the front office.
IV. Students, if you are not feeling well, please let your teacher know so that the nurse can be
contacted. Several of you have used your phones during class to text a parent, asking
them to check you out. Do not risk losing your phone privileges by doing this. You must
be seen by the nurse before a call home is made.
V. From Mrs. Sikes: Any 7th or 8th grade student interested in joining FBLA needs to go to
her room after these announcements.

The Jr. Bearcats lost to Waldron by a score of 0-42 at Bearcat Stadium Thursday. Mena will host Pottsville on October 1st.

Representatives from the Dequeen Mena Educational Service Cooperative are working with teachers at MMS & MHS today on technology related questions. They will be on campus at HHE & LDE on Friday. Mena teachers are always looking for ways to improve & make the learning experience as good as it can be.

Immunizations are required one week from today
II. Students, we are starting to have a problem with some of you wanting to share your food
with other students. Under the current guidelines for schools, you are not allowed to do
this. Please do not share food or drinks with other.
III. Yesterday during lunch, several of you had to be told to put your mask on. Some of you
have been told several times. All of you have read and signed the Covid 19 policy
agreement which detailed the rules for masks at school. Follow these guidelines or we will
begin contacting parents. Also, the flu is already starting to appear in our community.
IV. Flu shot forms were handed out yesterday. If you were absent or you need a form, there
are extras in the front office.
