Today, September 17th, is Constitution Day commemorating the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution.
Students in Mr. Tommy Johnson's history classes at Mena MIddle School have been studying the Constitution. The students participated in discussions and exercises that emphasized the freedoms outlined in the Constitution. Today they each had the opportunity to sign a copy just like those thirty-nine men did on September 17, 1787,

Announcements for Thursday, September 17 th
I. Students, do not come to school if you are not feeling well, have a fever, sore throat, etc.
II. Reminder: School pictures will take place on September 29 th . Once we receive the order
forms, we will distribute them.
III. If you were absent yesterday, your ACHIEVE teacher should have your mid-term grade
from yesterday.
IV. Please remember that you need to bring a bottle or container with a lid so that you can use
the water fountains that have been converted into bottle filling stations. Several of you are
going all day without drinking any water.
V. Reminder from Nurse Sherry: If you received a letter stating that you need an
immunization, please remind your parents that these immunizations are required by the
Arkansas Department of Health in order to attend school and are also a requirement for
participation in competitive activities such as athletics. You must either have your shot or
an appointment made by October 1 st , which is just two weeks from today.

1) Please return any library book you may have from last year.
2) Feel free to email Mrs. Brooks or drop by the library and give her titles and authors of

Because of how we ended the school year last March, there are quite a few library
books that were never returned. If you have a library book at home from last year,
please return it to the library. No late fees will be charged, we just want the books back.
Mrs. Brooks would like your input on ordering new books for the library. You can either
drop by the library or email her and let her know a title and author that you would
recommend.

Mena Cross Country competed at the Tom Stuthard Stampede on Tuesday. Logan Myers, Tre McMellon, Cooper Plunkett & Hudson Vacca medaled for Mena. The Bearcats will be back in action on 9/26 at the Today's Bank Mansfield Invitational.

I. Mid-term grade reports will be given out tomorrow.
II. Students, this is a reminder that we are able to see everything you search for on your
school-owned device and your teachers and administrators get alerts for any searches that
are deemed inappropriate. Do not use your Chromebook for anything other than class-
related work.
III. School pictures are scheduled for two weeks from today. Picture forms will be given out
once we receive them. You are not required to purchase pictures, however, everyone will
have their picture taken for the yearbook and for photo ID cards.
IV. You may begin placing orders for a yearbook. You will get the cheapest price if you order
in the next few weeks. There are a couple of different methods for ordering:
1) Visit jostens.com
2) Pick up an order form from Mrs. Lunsford’s classroom.

Due to a cancellation & a bye week the Junior Bearcats have had a two week break from games. They did get a practice in this morning & both the 7th grade & Jr. High teams will play at Lamar this Thursday.

Governor Asa Hutchinson conducted his daily update to media from UA Rich Mountain in Mena on Friday regarding Arkansas’s COVID-19 response.
This gave Mena Public School Superintendent Benny Weston an opportunity to speak to the governor in person about issues affecting MPS & the district’s start to the new school year.
