Monday, September 20 th
I. 6 th grade Quiz Bowl will have practice in the Conference Room right after these announcements. 7 th & 8 th grade will have practice tomorrow.
II. Several of you are still coming to school with a Chromebook that has not been charged. Please charge them overnight at home.

IV. Homecoming Week Events:
Tomorrow’s dress-up theme is “Groovy Tuesday,” dress up in 70’s disco style
Homecoming Parade is Wednesday at 5:30 on Mena Street, followed by the Powder-
Puff football game at Bearcat Stadium – cost is $2.00 for the game.
Friday: We will attend the Homecoming Pep Rally at Bearcat Stadium, during Achieve.
Friday Evening: Homecoming ceremony at 6:30, followed by the Homecoming football game between the Bearcats and the Waldron Bulldogs.
V. Picture day is one week from tomorrow. Even if you do not plan to purchase pictures, everyone will have their picture taken so that we will have a photo for the yearbook and for updated school ID cards. Order forms were given out last week but we have a few extra in the front office.
VI. Students, when you get the snack in the afternoon, you only need to get one. We purchase one snack per student. If there are extras, they will be made available to your teachers.

The Penny Wars bottles are set up outside the front office near the main entrance, and you can put your change in the bottles daily through Thursday. Remember, pennies count for positive points for your grade, and silver change counts as negative points for each grade. All money raised goes toward the Bearcats For a Cure Relay for Life team, and you are also earning points for your grade level for the spirit level.
The ice cream social event at Suzy Q’s will be tomorrow evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Students, please be aware that once you enter the gate for home football and volleyball games, you are not allowed to leave or go to the parking lot and come back into the facility. Once you leave the gate, you are making the decision to leave the ball game for the night, and you cannot pay to re-enter either.
Students, you can purchase your homecoming dance tickets, powerpuff entry, and your DodgeFest team fees with Mrs. Ashcraft. Dance tickets are $10 each. The dance will be Saturday evening, September 25, from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. Student ID’s will be printed today & we will start distributing them ASAP.
The teams are getting set for the powderpuff football game this Wednesday night, but we are still looking for male students to sign up to be the cheerleaders for the game. See Mrs. Ashcraft to sign up to be a cheerleader for the powderpuff football game.
This year we are happy to announce we are able to provide you with after school library hours and tutoring. The schedule for this is:
Monday: Mrs. Hooker 3:30 to 7 pm
Tuesday: Ms. Catlett 3:30 to 7 pm (this Tuesday it start 4)
Wednesday: Ms. Ashcraft 3:30 to 6 pm (this Wednesday no Library Hours because of parent teacher conferences)
Thursday: Mrs. Hoyle 3:30 to 7 pm
Saturday: Mrs. Hoyle or Ms. Catlett 9:00 to 12:00
This is time that you can use to study, gather for a group meeting, use our new makerspace, or get help with assignments.
If you sign up for it before the end of school, snacks will be provided. Saturday tutoring must be signed up for by Friday, the google form can be found in your “Class Of…” Google Classroom.
Math tutoring will be each morning from 7:15-8:00, and each Monday- Wednesday after school until 4:15.
Ms. Hendrix will be tutoring after school on Thursdays until 5:15.
Students, there are art posters up in the hallway with a “SCAN ME” QR code. There will be a prize awarded to one of the students who respond to the questions on the form. Look for them and participate!
Congratulations to Timberly Myers and Braxton Bradley on being our first winners for MHS’s Hallway Engagement Project! Please stop by the art room to pick up your prize!
Anyone who would like to join FCCLA please see Mrs. Wilson or Mrs. Hobson. Dues are $15 and can be paid anytime this month.

Mena Jr. & Sr. Volleyball will host Paris at the Union Bank Center today. Games begin at 4:00pm. GO LADYCATS!

Mena High School students will have the opportunity to vote for who they wish to be the 2021 Homecoming Queen on Monday.
The court will be presented & the queen will be crowned in a ceremony before the Mena/Waldron football game on Friday.
Mena won the silver bracket in Saturday's Jr. Ladycat Volleyball Classic.

Mena Football fell behind early & had no answers for Booneville Friday night at Bob Carver Bearcat Stadium. The home team lost by a score of 35-6 & fall to 2-2 on the season.
Next week will be the annual homecoming game for the Bearcats & they will face Waldron.

Today is Constitution Day & students in Karen Wimberly's class at Holly Harshman Elementary celebrated with a neat project. Next week is Constitution Week.

Scott Davis was at HHE this morning representing Rich Mountain Electric. He shared an electricity magic show in the gym for 3rd-5th grades & it was well received. Thank you REA & Mr. Davis !!!!

Thursday, September 16th
Mena volleyball & golf were in action.
Mena Sr. Volleyball travelled to Arkadelphia on Thursday & won 3-0. The score was 25-10, 25-19 & 25-23.
The Jr. High teams also had a good night winning all their matches 2-0.
Mena will host Paris on Monday at the Union Bank Center. Games begin at 4:00pm.
Mena Golf played at the Degray Staye Park course against Arkadelphia, Hope, DeQueen, Fountain Lake & Ouachita. The Bearcats were led by Evan Leonard with 47 followed by Cooper Plunkett's 59 & Alex Rocha with a 63. The boys district match will be on September 22nd at Degray.

Mena Jr. High Football hosted Lamar at Bob Carver Bearcat Stadium on Thursday. The Bearcats scored a touchdown with under two minutes to play but the extra point was blocked & Mena would lose by one 13-14. Mena will carry a 3-1 record into Waldron next Thursday.
The 7th Grade Bearcats picked up a big win 14-6 over Lamar on Thursday at Bob Carver Bearcat Stadium. With the win Mena improves to 3-0 on the season & will play on Thursday at Waldron.

Next week is Homecoming at MHS & the parade is on Wednesday beginning at 6:00pm. Thje route begins at the Polk County Courthouse, continue down Mena Street to Dallas Avenue & then to Bob Carver Bearcat Stadium. The parade will end in the stadium parking lot & the Powder Puff Football game will follow. on Randall Whorton Field.
