POWDER PUFF FOOTBALL 2021 The Juniors defeated the Seniors by a score of 14-7 in an overtime thriller at Bob Carver Bearcat Stadium on Wednesday. A good crowd was on hand and the entertainment was well worth the price of admission. CONGRATULATIONS JUNIORS !!!

Mena Golf competed in the 7-4A Tournament at Degray on Wednesday. Madi Lyle led the Ladycats with a 105. Emmi Hines had a 119 & Emma Threlkeld a 140. Lyle qualified for the 4A State Tournament to be played September 27th-29th. GO LADYCATS !

Powder Puff Football is tonight at Bob Carver Bearcat Stadium after the homecoming parade. Freshman, sophomore, junior & senior teams will compete. Kickoff should be around 6:30pm. Admission is $2.00 . Ladycat Golf will be competing in the district match at Degray near Arkadelphia today. Bearcat Golf will compete in the district match at Degray on Thursday.

“See you at the pole” Mena Middle School students gathered in prayer around the flag pole on Wednesday morning at 7:30am.

The Mena Band has received a donation of clarinet and saxophone reeds valued at $1200.00. This donation will to help the beginning band be more successful. GO BEARCATS!!!

Mena Middle School Project Prevent Team met with Ashley Curbow from PPYC and Jadyn Ketter from RAAD. The team is making plans for this year’s Red Ribbon week and continuing to educate their peers to make healthy choices.

The Mena Ladycats defeated Paris in three sets on Monday at the Union Bank Center. The score was 25-23, 25-17 & 25-16. The Sr. JV lost to Paris 1-2. The score was 24-26, 30-28 & 6-15. The senior girls’ powderpuff football team Is hard at work in the Makerspace creating uniforms for the game Wednesday night!

Mena Coaches select #72, Jake Brotherton, as the Farm Bureau Insurance Player of the Game vs. Booneville. Jake is a Senior this year and plays both ways as Offensive Left Tackle and at Defensive Tackle. Jake had 5 tackles for the night and did a really good Job on pass protection, however Mena lost 34-6. Jake is the son of Christy Harrison and Greg Brotherton and is a 3 year starter for the Bearcats. He enjoys working out and hopes to play college football next year at either Kansas University or AR State. He hopes to either become a football coach or get a degree in Bio-Medical Engineering after college. This Friday, Jake and the Bearcats will host the Waldron Bulldogs, for Homecoming, beginning at 7:00. The Mena Basscats kicked off the 2021-22 season this past weekend at the Arkansas Youth Fishing Federations 4 States Classic Tournament on Lake Millwood. The Basscats had two teams competing in the event. Austin Rose and Jarrett Burger (the reigning Arkansas High School Anglers of the year) kicked off their senior year by taking 2nd place in the high school division and winning Big Bass of the tournament. Braxton Philpot and Waylon Head placed 2nd place and Big bass in the junior division. The Basscats are looking forward to another awesome year of bass fishing! Homecoming Week Events:  Tomorrow’s dress-up theme is “Groovy Tuesday,” dress up in 70’s disco style  Homecoming Parade is Wednesday at 5:30 on Mena Street, followed by the Powder- Puff football game at Bearcat Stadium – cost is $2.00 for the game.  Friday: We will attend the Homecoming Pep Rally at Bearcat Stadium, during Achieve.  Friday Evening: Homecoming ceremony at 6:30, followed by the Homecoming football game between the Bearcats and the Waldron Bulldogs. V. Picture day is one week from tomorrow. Even if you do not plan to purchase pictures, everyone will have their picture taken so that we will have a photo for the yearbook and for updated school ID cards. Order forms were given out last week but we have a few extra in the front office. VI. Students, when you get the snack in the afternoon, you only need to get one. We purchase one snack per student.
