Announcements for Monday, September 14 th I. Mid-term grade reports will be given out this Wednesday. II. We are still seeing a few students getting off a bus in the morning without a mask. You must wear a mask in order to attend school as per State requirements. III. School pictures are scheduled for two weeks from tomorrow, Tuesday, September 29 th . Picture forms will be given out once we receive them. You are not required to purchase pictures, however, everyone will have their picture taken for the yearbook and for photo ID cards. IV. Reminder: If you received a letter about required immunizations, be sure and give that to your parents. The Arkansas Department of Health requires you to have the immunizations by October 1 st . The immunizations are required to attend school and to participate in Athletics, Band, and Cheer. V. Lunchtime Weather: VI. Mena Golf will play at the Nashville Country Club at 3:30pm. Mena Volleyball will host Mansfield with games starting at 4:30pm.

The Bearcats lost to Hot Springs in overtime 13-20 Friday night. Mena falls to 1-2 & will try to bounce back at Booneville next Friday 9/18!!!!

Governor Asa Hutchinson conducted his daily update to media from UA Rich Mountain in Mena on Friday regarding Arkansas’s COVID-19 response. This gave Mena Public School Superintendent Benny Weston an opportunity to speak to the governor in person about issues affecting MPS & the district’s start to the new school year.

Life savers for life savers! Life savers and cards from Mena Middle School FACS students are being delivered to local first responders to remember and honor first responders who lost their lives 9/11/2001.

The 2020 Mena High School Homecoming Court was revealed this morning, based on the results of the MHS students' votes yesterday. The Homecoming maids were each surprised during class with a rose from the Seniors of the Mena Bearcat football team. Other sports are grabbing the headlines right now but preparations are underway for the 20/21 basketball season. Bearcat Head Basketball Coach Randy Peters put the team thru a workout Friday morning.

Virtual, blended, or non-enrolled students have to sign up for meals every week. Meals may be picked up at Louise Durham Elementary or Mena High School on Fridays between 1 and 2pm. Ticket Sales for Hot Springs vs. Mena Bearcats! Due to Covid-19, the Governor and Arkansas Department of Health has put a limit on the number of people who can attend indoor and outdoor activities. These restrictions are not the desire of anyone in the district. However, for the health and safety of our players, coaches and fans, we MUST adhere to the guidelines set by the ADH and Governor. We are fortunate, at this time, to be able to continue with our sporting events. Mena Public Schools will adhere to the Indoor and Outdoor venue guidelines set forth by the Arkansas Department of Health. Anyone over 10 years of age must wear a face covering at all times. Single-household family groups can sit together but must be 6-feet apart from other groups or individuals. Seating areas will be marked such that every other row is unoccupied. Anyone found not to be in compliance with the regulations set forth by the ADH will be asked by an administrator or security officer to comply. Refusal to follow directives will result in removal from the premises. Due to the new guidelines, MPS will no longer allow FREE ADMISSION passes other than those issued by the Arkansas Athletics Association. Ticket Prices: Per game admission is $5.00 per person. Football Games: -Bearcat Stadium Capacity-680 Football Players, Band, and Cheer will be issued a certain number of redeemable tickets first. Then there will be a limited number of tickets available to the general public (no more than 2 tickets per person) that can be picked up at the Central Office the day of the event from (8:00am to 3:45pm).

If you are interested in joining, please complete the form and bring your $15 to Mrs. Torix. The FBLA Fall Conference date has been changed so registration is open again if you would like to attend. The new deadline is Oct 2nd! Cost is $15 to attend and receive an FBLA t-shirt An FBLA Officer Application was sent to your email on Thursday, Sept 3rd. If you are interested in becoming an officer, you must first join FBLA then complete the Officer Application. These applications are due by Friday, September 11th. Be sure to order your Mena High School yearbook before October 1 to take advantage of the lowest price of $50. If you personalize your yearbook before October 1 with your name on it for an additional $6, you will receive four free icons for the cover. See Mr. Philpot in room 205 for the new format for ordering yearbooks this year. Senior pictures retakes and make-up picture day will be Monday, September 21. If you did not get your senior pictures taken on the original date in July, we will need you to get your pictures taken for yearbook purposes, even if you don’t plan to purchase any of the photos. Anyone interested in joining Sci-Fi Club this year, there will be no dues this year, just sign up with Ms. Hooker to join! Even Blended students will have access to the Google Classroom. Any Junior wanting to take the PSAT test, please email Mrs. Thacker before Friday, September 11. All students need to log in to their class grade Google Classroom and cast their Homecoming vote right now!

Send us your "Grandparents Read Week" pictures! Saturday is National Grandparent's Day. Normally Holly Harshman Elementary would host Grandparent's Read Week and grandparents would be invited into the library to read to their grandchildren each day during their library time. Unfortunately, this year, we will not be able to have Grandparent's Read Week, so we are asking all MPS patrons to submit pictures of grandparents reading to their grandchildren. Announcements for Thursday, September 10 th I. From our school Resource Officer, Deputy Wagner: Several Middle School students are walking across the bus lanes after school to get into a vehicle in the football field parking lot. If you are a car rider, your parent MUST pick you up in the designated car-rider line. This is a safety issue. Starting next week, the Deputy will begin talking with anyone who is continuing to do this. II. From Nurse Sherry: Immunizations notices have been given out.  If you received one, make sure you give it to your parents.  Deadline for immunizations or having an appointment for immunizations is Oct 1.  These are required by the Arkansas Department of health for students to remain in school or to participate in extracurricular activities such as band, athletics, and cheer. III. If you would like to order a letterman jacket for athletics, band, cheer, or choir, there are a few forms in the front office. If we run out of forms you can visit www.ssrjackets.com ** Orders must be placed by September 23 rd IV. Reminders:  Get all required paperwork signed and turned in by tomorrow.  Mid-term progress reports will be given out next week. V. If you bring your own ball from home to use at lunch, please write your name on it in ink. VI. If you take a four-square ball outside, please do not kick them. Kicking them causes them to form swells and they become unusable. VII. Lunchtime Weather: There is a good chance that we will be inside today for lunch. You may eat in the Cafeteria, Library, or at one of the tables located in the main hallway. Once you’ve eaten, move to your grade-level hallway and be seated. Once you are in the hallway, you may use your phone / electronic device. VIII.
