The Mena Basscats competed in the Trader Bills High School Trail tournament on Lake Greeson Sunday. This is a Bassmaster High School National Qualifier. Austin Rose and Jarrett Burger took 4th place. The Basscats are scheduled to be back in action in another National qualifying tournament on March 5th at Lake Ouachita.

The Mena Ladycats earned a 3 seed in next weeks 4A Regional Basketball Tournament in Nashville with a win on Saturday at the 7-4A District Tournament in Arkadelphia.

Mena Middle School Project Prevent Team wrapped up Random Acts of Kindness week today with the annual Through With Chew campaign- "Pick"le Your Choices Wisely! Team members encouraged peers to pledge to be Chew/Spit Tobacco free, in exchange for the pledge students were given a pickle. Members announced tobacco facts throughout lunch. National Through With Chew week is February 20-26. Project Prevent encourages all of the Mena community to be Through With Chew.

The Special Olympics basketball skills competition was held in the Union Bank Center on Friday. Mena High School students volunteered during the event and athletes from around the area competed.
The Mena Public Schools are celebrating "Random Act of Kindness Week." On Friday Mr. Phillip Hatley spoke to students at Holly Harshman Elementary about making a conscious effort to choose kindness as a lifestyle. Thanks Mr. Hatley for capping off a great week at HHE !
The 7-4A District Tournament Semi-final games were played on Thursday .

Mena will play in the third place game on Saturday at 11:30am in Arkadelphia. That game will determine if the Ladycats will be a 3rd or 4th seed in next week's 4-A South Regional Tournament at Nashville.

Ms.Bridgette Martin from the Arkansas Cooperative Extension Office visited with Ms.Hobson and Ms.Wilson’s morning classes on Thursday about the importance of choosing beverages with no or less sugar and drinking water. The students then got to use the Fender Blender Bicycle to make their own nutritional smoothies!

Cold & wet weather kept Mena Middle School students indoors during lunch on Thursday & this gave them an opportunity to take advantage of the library makerspace.

The Mena School District has provided the opportunity to our Response To Intervention (RTI) specialists to attend the Summit on RTI at Work in Austin, Texas. The leading experts in the field will be equipping our specialist with the resources needed to help develop and implement the strategies to ensure ALL students learn at high levels and positively impact student achievement.
The Mena Middle School Project Prevent team has been busy celebrating Random Acts of Kindness Week. Members have made dailey prevention announcements along with kindness quotes of the day. The team has distributed Kindness Challenge sheets to students. They have challenged students to a kindness button design contest as well as a tab collecting contest to support the Ronald McDonald House. Today students treated teachers with popcorn and water bottles with nicotine prevention messages attached.

Randi Brown's PreK Class at Louise Durham Elementary enjoyed crazy hair and hat day! Kindness week has been a big hit !

Mr. Craig Bentley is representing the Mena Public Schools today as part of our Recruiting Team at the Arkansas Tech Educational Career Job Fair.

The Ladycats have advanced to the 7-4A District Tournament Semi-Finals & in doing so have also qualified for the 4A South Regional Tournament. Mena will play Bauxite on Thursday at 3:30pm in Arkadelphia. Next week's regional will be played at Nashville.

Congratulations to Mena High School senior CADENCE BARNES who auditioned and was accepted into the Arkansas Tech Band last weekend.

LDE, HHE & MMS are collecting pop tops in support of Ronald McDonald House. The drive continues through May. The program raises funds , through recycling, that helps pay for families to stay at the Ronald McDonald House while their child is receiving treatment at the hospital.

The Mena Bearcats won their first game at the district tournament on Monday.
