Announcements for Tuesday, October 13 th
I. Reminder: There is no school this Friday or the following Monday. Though we will not be
on campus on Monday, it will be a virtual day in which you will receive online assignments
from your teachers.
II. Covid cases are beginning to rise in our community and a couple of cases have appeared
among students. Please continue to follow the guidelines for masks and social distancing.
Some Covid Protocol Reminders:
Keep your mask over your mouth and nose
Do not pull your mask down to talk to someone
Only 3 people allowed at a picnic table – there have been too many people at the tables
Only 2 people allowed on the benches – one on each end
III. There are a few jackets and shirts in the Lost-and-Found box in the Cafeteria. If you are
missing one, please look in there.
IV. At the end of these announcements, 7 th & 8 th grade Quiz Bowl teams will have practice in
the Conference Room located next to Mrs. Rose’s office.
V. If you are a member of a club or organization that plans to meet during ACHIEVE, you must
go to your ACHIEVE class first. Do not go to the meeting location until after the
announcements have been read.

Announcements for Monday, October 12 th

Coach Johnson's 8th grade history classes recently participated in Constitution Week activities that involved studying the Constitution and Bill of Rights. The students created posters related to the Bill of Rights which involved research and a lot of creativity. The James K. Polk Chapter of the DAR provided a copy of the Constitution for the students to sign and some pamphlet sized Constitutions for the students.

Announcements for Friday, October 9 th
I. In just a few minutes we will all be going outside to the bus loading area to cheer on the
MHS Homecoming Court as they drive by. Because of social distancing requirements,
there will be assigned areas for each grade. Your teacher will give your further instructions
and Mr. Sherrer or Mr. Coogan will be outside to help.
II. From Mrs. Sikes: FBLA members need to read your email from her that was sent yesterday
afternoon. She has posted something you need to complete this morning in the FBLA
google classroom.
III. Reminder: Next weekend is a 4-day weekend for Students. There will be no school on
Friday, October 16 th or Monday, October 19 th . Though you will not be at school, that
Monday is a “Virtual Day,” in which teachers will be sending you online assignments.
IV. Students, if you are staying home because of sickness or any other reason, do not jokingly
tell your friends that you have Covid. If we find this out, your parents will be getting a
phone call from our District’s Contact Tracers.
V. Reminder: Several of you are apparently forgetting that we are able to see everything you
are doing on your school Chromebook or any other device that uses the school server.
Use your Chromebook for school work only.

This morning during enrichment high school and middle school FFA members attended the monthly FFA chapter meeting in the agriculture building. During the meeting members got to learn about three Career Development Events they will have the opportunity to compete in during the spring semester. Today the officer team taught the members about livestock judging, veterinary science, and meats judging. Members had the opportunity to test their skills they would use in those events and had the opportunity to win some prizes as well!

Announcements for Thursday, October 8 th
I. Tomorrow’s dress-up theme for Spirit Week is to wear all red.
II. Tomorrow morning near the end of ACHIEVE, we will all be going outside to the bus
loading area to cheer on the MHS Homecoming Court as they drive by. Because of social
distancing requirements, there will be assigned areas for each grade. Your teacher will
give your further instructions tomorrow.
III. Flu shot forms are due today.
IV. Several of you are still taking your Chrome Books outside and using them. Keep your
Chrome Book closed during lunch in order to protect it. One Chrome Book was left outside
yesterday during lunch. Keep up with it.
V. It has been reported that several students are not sitting in their assigned seats whenever a
substitute teacher is in the classroom. You MUST sit in your assigned seats because that
is what we use for contact tracing in the event we have a student or teacher who tests
positive for Covid 19.
VI. From Mr. McCormick: FFA meeting right after these announcements. Meet Mr.
McCormick in the cafeteria to walk to the high school for the meeting.
VII. It is more important than ever for you to follow all mask guidelines. Wearing your mask is
the best protection from being sent home to quarantine because of being deemed a “close
contact.”

Mena Bearcat Seniors & Homecoming Court are zooming with classes at Holly Harshman & Louise Durham Elementary this week in celebration of Spirit Week. The high school students are reading books, answering questions, & visiting with the elementary students via zoom.

person.

III. It is more important than ever for you to follow all mask guidelines. Wearing your mask is

Announcements for Tuesday, October 6 th
I. Reminder: 7 th grade Quiz Bowl students will meet in the Cafeteria right after these
announcements.
II. Tomorrow’s dress-up theme for Spirit Week is “Cowboys vs Aliens.”
III. Flu shot forms are due this Friday.
IV. You have a four-day weekend coming up soon. There will be no school on Friday, October
16 th or Monday, October 19 th . More information will be given later about the 19 th , which will
be a “virtual day” while teachers are in training.
V. Several of you are apparently playing a type of game that involves slapping, hitting, or
kicking someone else. This “game” ends now. Anyone that is hitting, slapping, or kicking
another student will be facing either In-School Suspension or Out of School
Suspension.
VI. You all did much better with your trash yesterday. Keep up the good work.
VII. Reminder: Once you are finished eating, you must put your mask back on unless you are 6
feet or more away from the nearest person.
VIII. Reminder: If you go home with a fever, you are not allowed to return to school until you’ve
been fever free – without the aid of medication – for at least 24 hours.
IX. Report card time is approaching…the first grading quarter ends 2 weeks from today. Be
sure you are getting all of your assignments turned in on time.

The Mena Jr. Bearcats lost to DeQueen Monday night 0-14. The 7th grade Bearcats beat DeQueen 32-0. Mena will play at Dover on Thursday!

Announcements for Monday, October 5 th
I. Tomorrow’s dress-up theme for Spirit Week is “Mathalete vs Athlete: You can dress up like
a nerd or your favorite athlete. The dress-up themes for the remainder of the week are
posted on the Library windows.
II. Flu shot forms are due this Friday. .
III. Reminder: 6 th grade Quiz Bowl students will meet in the Conference Room right after these
announcements. 7 th / 8 th grade Quiz Bowl will meet tomorrow in the Cafeteria
IV. Remember to throw you breakfast and lunch trash away. Don’t be the person who causes
everyone to lose the privilege of being able to eat outside.
V. There are starting to be a few Covid cases in the area, along with the flu, though no major
impact at MMS as of now. Continue to wear your masks and use social distancing. This
will continue to be strictly enforced.

A big game tonight at the UBC when the Ladycats play Fountain Lake. Games begin at 5:00pm.
The Jr, Bearcats will begin at 5:30pm at Bearcat Stadium when they play DeQueen. These are game that were postponed from earlier in the season... GO BEARCATS!
