Mena Jr. Volleyball & Jr. Football were both in action on Thursday. Jr. Ladycats-0 Greenwood-2 Jr. Bearcats-35 Mansfield-0 Volleyball will host L.R. Central on 9/2 & Jr. Football will play at DeQueen on 9/2.

Coach Luttmer’s MHS AE Math students took part in some new activities this week including the Bear and Fish Ice Fishing dice game to help with counting techniques, and the Switch/Change/Go game in which students practiced following directions. It’s always nice to combine learning with fresh air!

Sports Surface Management was at Bob Carver Bearcat Stadium on Thursday prepping the turf on Randall Whorton Field for the football season. The first game is Friday at 7pm against DeQueen. Go Bearcats!!!!

Thursday, August 26, 2021 Thursday - Junior High Volleyball will play at Greenwood Jr. High Football will play at Mansfield Friday - Sr. Football will play DeQueen at Bearcat Stadium Homecoming is on the horizon and students should be ready to dance! This year, we will host the first annual Homecoming Semi-Formal Dance. Dress is semi-formal and tickets must be purchased in advance. More information on ticket sales coming soon! FBLA has been waiting for an in person conference for a year and it is happening! The Fall District Leadership Conference will be held in Fort Smith on Monday, October 4th. Before you are able to go to the conference….YOU MUST JOIN!!! Membership dues are $20 and there is a $20 registration fee to attend the fall conference. Beginning TODAY, See Mrs. Torix to pay dues and register for the conference! The deadline for conference registration is Wednesday, September 15th. Students: Some of you completed the FBLA membership form last spring before school ended. If you did not pay your dues, please see Mrs. Torix to complete your membership no later than Friday, September 3rd. After school if you are needing to cross the bus loop please use the crosswalk. We do not want any accidents. The Mena High School Cheerleading team is doing a “Paint the Paw” fundraiser. Get your parking spot painted with your name and graduation year for $25! The FFA Organization is now accepting new members to join! There will be a meeting on September 10th in the Ag Building during Enrichment, this will be the first meeting of the year and it is encouraged for new members or interested students to attend. Dues are $17 and are encouraged to be paid as soon as possible. WE would love to see you there, and get to know you! Powder Puff Football will take place at 6:30pm on Wednesday, September 22nd, following the Homecoming Parade, at Bob Carver Bearcat Stadium. Mile Split has released the Arkansas Class 4A Cross Country Preseason Rankings & the Mena boys are ranked 7th. The season begins on September 7th. GO BEARCATS !

Mrs. Ford’s and Mrs. White’s third grade classes at Holly Harshman Elementary had a great time exploring the school garden on their noun scavenger hunt. Learning is so much more fun, when you can be outdoors!

The Mena 7th grade football game at Mansfield on Thursday has been cancelled & will be rescheduled at a later date. The Mena Jr. High Bearcats will play as scheduled with kickoff at 7:00pm. GO BEARCATS!

Jostens will be in the MHS Performing Arts Center during enrichment on 10/28 to discuss and handout packets for Senior Rings. They will return and a Jostens representative will be set up in the Counseling Center on 11/3 to take orders.

MMS ANNOUNCEMENTS Wednesday, August 25 th I. Any 7 th or 8 th grader that is interested in joining the Cross Country Team will meet with Coach Peters in our gym right after these announcements. II. Reminders:  There will be an FBLA meeting for 7 th & 8 th graders this Friday during ACHIEVE.  6 th grade physicals for Wellness class are due this Friday.  The daily snack is available in the Cafeteria between 6 th & 7th period.  6 th graders need to enter the building through the 6 th grade entrance each morning.  8 th grade Basketball boys will be practicing at the High School this week.  Back to School Dance is next Tuesday evening. III. If you would like to request a song for the dance, write the song title, along with your name, on a sheet of paper and turn it in to Mrs. Rose. The song must not contain inappropriate lyrics. IV. Students, you should have received an email from me that gave details about the upcoming dance. I have had a couple of you ask if students from other schools may attend. Read your email again…this dance is for Mena Middle School students only. No other students are allowed at this dance. V. From Mr. McCormick: Tomorrow during ACHIEVE there will be a meeting in his classroom for all 6 th ,7 th , and 8 th grade students who are showing an animal at the County Fair. VI. If you are interested in Mena Youth League Soccer, we have registration forms in the office. This league is sponsored by the Mena Soccer Association – it is not a Mena Schools activity. Do not return the forms to our school. VII. Water Bottles. If you were absent last week and did not receive a MMS water bottle, you may come by the office and get one. Students, keep up with your water bottle so that you can use our fountains. We are required by current law to have water bottle filling stations. It is important that you stay hydrated. VIII. Mena Volleyball hosted Lake Hamilton Monday at Jim Rackley Gymnasium & the Union Bank Center.. The 7th Grade Ladycats lost 9-25 & 0-25. The Jr. High Ladycats won 25-18 & 25-23 The Sr. Ladycats won 25-15, 25-12 & 25-18 Mena will play at Greenwood on Thursday.

Mena Volleyball will host Lake Hamilton at the Union Bank Center. The 7th Grade, Jr. JV, Sr. JV. Jr. High & Sr. High teams will play beginning at 4:30pm. MHS Golf will play at Hot Springs Village in a match hosted by Jessieville..

Mena Sr, Boys Golf competed at the Nashville Country Club on Monday. Mena finished in third behind Nashville & Hope.. Malvern & Bauxite also competed..
