Coach Luttmer’s MHS AE Math students took part in some new activities this week including the Bear and Fish Ice Fishing dice game to help with counting techniques, and the Switch/Change/Go game in which students practiced following directions. It’s always nice to combine learning with fresh air!


Sports Surface Management was at Bob Carver Bearcat Stadium on Thursday prepping the turf on Randall Whorton Field for the football season. The first game is Friday at 7pm against DeQueen. Go Bearcats!!!!

Homecoming is on the horizon and students should be ready to dance! This year, we will host the first annual Homecoming Semi-Formal Dance. Mena High School Student Council is selling the official 2021 Homecoming Tee this year! The cost will be $12 per shirt and we have youth sizes Small-Large and adult sizes Small-6X available for order! FBLA has been waiting for an in person conference for a year and it is happening! The Fall District Leadership Conference will be held in Fort Smith on Monday, October 4th. Before you are able to go to the conference….YOU MUST JOIN!!! Membership dues are $20 and there is a $20 registration fee to attend the fall conference. Beginning TODAY, See Mrs. Torix to pay dues and register for the conference! The deadline for conference registration is Wednesday, September 15th.

Want to join a group that has a place for everyone? The FFA Organization is now accepting new members to join! There will be a meeting on September 10th in the Ag Building during Enrichment, this will be the first meeting of the year and it is encouraged for new members or interested students to attend. Dues are $17 and are encouraged to be paid as soon as possible. WE would love to see you there, and get to know you!

I. Any 7 th or 8 th grader that is interested in joining the Cross Country Team will meet with Coach Peters in our gym right after these announcements.
II. Reminders:
There will be an FBLA meeting for 7 th & 8 th graders this Friday during ACHIEVE.
6 th grade physicals for Wellness class are due this Friday.
The daily snack is available in the Cafeteria between 6 th & 7th period.
6 th graders need to enter the building through the 6 th grade entrance each morning.
8 th grade Basketball boys will be practicing at the High School this week.
Back to School Dance is next Tuesday evening.
III. If you would like to request a song for the dance, write the song title, along with your name, on a sheet of paper and turn it in to Mrs. Rose. The song must not contain inappropriate lyrics.
IV. Students, you should have received an email from me that gave details about the upcoming dance. I have had a couple of you ask if students from other schools may attend. Read your email
again…this dance is for Mena Middle School students only. No other students are allowed at this dance.
V. From Mr. McCormick: Tomorrow during ACHIEVE there will be a meeting in his classroom for all 6 th ,7 th , and 8 th grade students who are showing an animal at the County Fair.
VI. If you are interested in Mena Youth League Soccer, we have registration forms in the office. This league is sponsored by the Mena Soccer Association – it is not a Mena Schools activity. Do not

VII. Water Bottles. If you were absent last week and did not receive a MMS water bottle, you may come by the office and get one. Students, keep up with your water bottle so that you can use our
fountains. We are required by current law to have water bottle filling stations. It is important that you stay hydrated.
