Students: If you are coming in late to 1st period, you must go to the office and sign in, teachers, please send them to the office to sign in if they don’t have an admit slip (either white or blue). Also if you are coming in at the end of 1st period, you will still receive an unexcused tardy. Also, this does not just pertain to 1st and 2nd period, you will only get an excused tardy if you have a doctor’s note.
HUB Program Applications are available in Mrs. Buckley's office. If you are interested in the HUB program for 2020-2021, you are welcome to pick up an application in the office.
FFA Members who are participating in the Colt’s Classic CDE Contests on Friday, February 14, will be leaving the Ag Building @ 6:30 a.m. This will involve the following teams: Nursery & Landscape, Electricity, Ag Mechanics, Vet. Science and Forestry.

JAG Work Applications (upcoming juniors and seniors) are available for next year's JAG Work class. You can pick up an application from Mrs. Purvis (room 403), counseling center, or online at karenpurvis.wixsite.com/mhsjag. Return applications to Mrs. Purvis or Mrs. Thacker or Enrichment teacher. Priority deadline is February 21, 2020.
The yearbook staff has extended sales of the 2020 MHS Yearbook for a limited time. You can still order a non-personalized 2020 yearbook for $60, but the final day to order will be next Thursday, February 13. See Mr. Philpot in room 205 to order with cash or check.
Special Olympic Polar Plunge is scheduled for this Thursday, February 13 at 11:30 in the Student Parking Lot. Stop by Room 214 and pick up your Plunge Form and get more information on how to be involved...Rumor has it that Coach Wright and Coach Lyle will plunge if their girls can raise $1000.00….Let’s help the girls make this possible!!!!
The Independent Living Class will have Hot Chocolate, Cappuccinos and Coffees for sale daily before school starts for $1.00 each. Stop by and see them in the hallway.
The Mena Middle School Valentine Dance is tonight from 6-8pm in the cafeteria !

Mena School EAST Program Receives Grants
Case Wiles and Baylen Wright, 8th Graders in EAST at Mena Schools started a project “The Secret Garden”. Holly Harshmen Elementary had a designated garden area which needed attention. Case and Baylen decided to take on the project. They have worked diligently to make improvements since August. They have completed their fire pit, which they dug by hand, and are in the process of purchasing plants and trees for the garden. Other EAST students have joined to help by designing a Hammock and Reading Tent area. With a grant from Farm Bureau, they will create a vegetable garden and outdoor classroom area to help increase the agriculture awareness of students.
This is a wonderful learning opportunity, allowing students to apply their knowledge. Case and Baylen will be teaching other students what they have learned from generations of family farming.

Reminders:
The MMS dance is tomorrow evening, 6:00 – 8:00 pm. If you want to make a song request, put the song title, name of the artist, and your name on a piece of paper and bring it to the front office.
Valentines Crush sales continue through Thursday.
Today is the last day for 6th graders to turn in Dental Sealant forms.
There will be no school this Friday, February 14, and Monday, February 17. All 8th graders will have their CAP Conferences at the High School on the 17th. More details will be given out later.
From Mrs. Sikes: All FBLA members need to go to her room for a few minutes after these announcements.
From Mr. Goodnight: There will be no Archery practice this week.
From Mrs. Lunsford: Group photos of the Student Council Officers will be taken this Thursday during ACHIEVE. The remaining Student Council Representatives will have a group photo taken next Tuesday, February 18th. Also, check the bulletin board by the Cafeteria if you need to see if you’ve purchased a yearbook.
This Wednesday, our Junior High Lady Cats and Bearcats will be wrapping up a very successful basketball season as they play in the District Tournament at Nashville. Good luck Cats!

26 Mena FFA members attended the Arkansas FFA winter leadership conference at Camp Couchdale in Hot Springs this weekend. This conference involved leadership skill development which these students can use in their FFA chapter.

The Mena teams played their final home game of season at the Union Bank Center Friday night... The Ladycats won their game by a score of 41-37 & the Bearcats lost 27-40. Mena will play at Nashville on Tuesday 2/11.
The 7-4A District Tournament will be played next week in Nashville. The Mena Ladycats & Bearcats received a first round bye & both will open play on Wednesday 2/12. Check the brackets below... GO BEARCATS!!!!

Gameday Friday!
The Mena Jr. High played at Bauxite Thursday night. The 7th grade girls won by a score of 15-13... The JV Jr. Ladycats won 26-7 & The Varsity Jr. Ladycats lost 22-25. The Jr. Bearcat JV won 30-17 and they boys varsity won 54-44. The district tournament will be played next week & we will post the bracket when it becomes available.
Mrs. Vega's Class at LDE bundled up and enjoyed the snow!
The Mena High School Theatre Department performed Macdaddy (funny short Macbeth) for 10th grade English classes today.
Sr. Night is this Friday 2/7 at the Union Bank Center!
The Seniors will be recognized at 5:30 before the girls game. After the senior night ceremony we will warm up, and play the Varsity girls then Varsity boys. Should start about 6:00 p.m

Congratulations to Mena High School Senior Zane Stephens. Zane will be playing football at Ouachita Baptist University & signed his letter of intent this morning in the Union Bank Center surrounded by family, friends, teammates & coaches. GO BEARCATS!
