The Mena Basscats competed in the AYFA High School State wide tournament at Lake Hamilton on Sunday. The Basscats had two teams finish in the top 5. Austin Johnston and Cason Cannon (the reigning AYFA anglers of the year) took 2nd place. Austin Rose and Evan Graves took 4th place. The Basscats would like to say thank you to all of our sponsors. We cannot do this without your help. We hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a happy holiday season.

Mena Basketball hosted Hope at the Union Bank Center Friday Night. The Ladycats defeated Hope 64-39 & Hope won the Sr. Boys contest 44-36... The Mena teams will play at Cossatot on Monday 12/16.

Announcements for Thursday, December 12th Reminders: EAST students participating in today’s Veteran’s program will go to Lunch “A” and catch the bus at 11:45. BADD Club will have a meeting on tomorrow. MMS & MHS bands will have their Christmas concerts tonight, 7:00 pm, at the PAC. 6th grade ETS students will be meeting next Tuesday during ACHIEVE. 6th grade Spelling Bee participants will be meeting in Mrs. Dollar’s room on Monday. Girls of Promise applications and essay rough drafts are due to Mrs. Rose tomorrow. Mrs. Moore would like to remind all GT students that will be participating in tomorrow’s Geography Bee to remember to bring a lunch tomorrow. FBLA members will be having their Christmas party tomorrow during ACHIEVE. Several of our students are in the play, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, put on by the Junior Ouachita Little Theater (JOLT). The play will be performed at the OLT 7:30 Friday, 7:30 Saturday and 2:30 Sunday afternoon. There will be a coat drive in front of Bob Carver Bearcat Stadium this Saturday, December 14th. This is the first annual Coat the Cold event. They will be collecting new and gently used coats, jackets, hoodies, gloves, scarves, and hats. All gently used items will be laundered before disbursement. All items that are received as a donation will be distributed throughout the local schools for children in need, the remaining items will be donated to those in need, as needed.

Students please bring any gently used clothes or shoes that you no longer need. Thursday, 12-12, FBLA and FCCLA will have their combined Christmas party in the cafeteria during Enrichment. Friday, Dec. 13, Sr. Basketball vs. Hope 6:00 Friday, Dec. 13, Sci-fi and Art Club Christmas party! Don’t forget to pay dues before you come! Students are not to be in the hallways during Lunch A or Lunch B. The library, cafeteria, or patio are available areas during lunch. Students taking classes with UA Rich Mountain who borrowed a book please return the book to Mrs. Thacker before you leave before the holiday break. FBLA members who plan to compete at the spring leadership conference need to see Mrs. Lindsey or Mrs. Torix for a permission slip. These and $20 are due Friday, December 13, if you intend to compete. The Administration Office of Mena Public Schools would like to thank the individuals and community organizations who are making contributions this holiday season to "Feed A Bearcat". Sherry Newman, Kim DePriest, Superintendent Benny Weston, Paulette Sherrer, and Suzanne Bentley choose to annually donate to the student fund at Christmas time. The Mena School District "Feed A Bearcat" Program aims to provide wrap around services to our students in need. These services are offered on an individual basis as needs are identified and include the backpack food program, personal hygiene items, clothing, school supplies, extra-curricular student expenses, and assistance with lunch account balances. The Mena School District appreciates the generosity of our patrons who are able to donate items or monetary gifts to our students through this endeavor to meet our local needs. The Mena Sr. Basketball Teams hosted Hot Springs Lakeside at the Union Bank Center Tuesday Night. The Ram's took all three contest... Mena lost the JV Girls game 13-15 in overtime. The Varsity Girls lost 48-54 & the Bearcats lost 27-51.

Announcements for Tuesday, December 10th From Mrs. Lunsford: EAST students – if your ACHIEVE teacher approves it, you can go to the Choir room right after these announcements to practice for the Veteran’s activity. Also, remember that you must have your permission slip signed and turned in to her by tomorrow. On Thursday, you will eat during Lunch “A” and load the bus at 11:45. If you are a teacher’s aide, you will have a group photo made today after these announcements. The BADD Club will have a meeting this Friday in Mrs. Rose’s office. Tonight is the MMS Winter Dance from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. The cost is $5, Concession stand will be open. Make sure your parents know that the dance ends at 8:00 so that they will be here to pick you up. Song requests are due to Mrs. Rose by noon today. The MMS and MHS Bands’ Christmas Concert is Thursday, 7:00 pm, at the PAC. Lunchtime Weather: The current temperature is 37 degrees and is not expected to get above 40 degrees by lunchtime. You are allowed to go outside as usual.
