This morning the Mena FFA Advisors adventured over to the Natural Resource Lab and took some measurements of the ponds to gauge the depths of them. In preparation for a new upcoming project.

The Bearcat and Ladycats were hard at work earning community service hours this morning while cleaning busses at the bus barn.

Teachers in Kindergarten-3rd grade at Louise Durham Elementary are participating in Orton-Gillngham training this week. Orton-Gillingham is a highly structured approach that breaks reading and spelling down into smaller skills involving letters and sounds and then builds on these skills over time. It was the first approach to use explicit, direct, sequential, systematic, multi-sensory instruction to teach reading, which is effective for all students and essential for teaching students with dyslexia.

Bearcat football continued preparation for the 2023 season with their Red & Black Scrimmage on Tuesday at Bob Carver Bearcat Stadium. Mena will play a scrimmage at Mansfield on August 15th and the season opener is August 25th when they host DeQueen.

Rhett Brotherton lead Mena Golf at the Cortez Golf Club in Hot Springs Village on Tuesday. The Bearcats are back in action on August 15th at the Waldron Country Club.

Thursday was pizza and movie day for junior high and 7th grade Mena football!

Mena teachers collaborating with other grade level teachers from across the state at the Benchmark Workshop Cohort on Thursday in Farmington at the Northwest Arkansas Education Service Cooperative.

The Mena High School Cheer team baked cookies to show their support to the Ladycat Volleyball team and coaches on Thursday!
The Ladycats have their first home game on August 24th at the Union Bank Center! Go Ladycats!

EVAN LEONARD was the medalist today at the Waldron Country Club and led the Bearcats to their first win of the season.

Transportation Supervisor James Davis says the Mena School District's busses are ready, routes have been planned and inspections passed in preparation for the 2023-2024 school year.
He asks that all area drivers remember that school busses will be back on the streets and highways transporting students to and from school beginning August 16th.
