The Jr. High Track Teams competed at the Mansfield Tiger Relays on Thursday.
The Jr. Ladycats finished tied for first place in the team standings & were led by ELLIOT DUGAN with a first place finish in the high jump & the 100 meter hurdles. The Mena 4x400 & 4x800 meter relays teams also won those events.
The Jr. Bearcats were led by ELIJAH SMITH who finished first in the triple jump & 2nd in the high jump.

Athletes from the University of Arkansas Rich Mountain spoke to the 3rd,4th & 5th grade students at Holly Harshman on Friday about the importance of continuing your education after high school & how they used a skill set they were blessed with to make that happen. They also gave students a look inside their life as student/athletes.

Mena High School 9th grade English Classes have been studying the works of Shakespeare recently. On Thursday Ms. Jessica Kropp's Theatre III Students performed the Shakespeare / Romeo & Juliet play for those students in the Performing Arts Center.

Southwest EMS was on campus Thursday teaching 30 Mena High School students CPR.


Former Razorback and NBA star Sidney Moncrief & his wife Dr. Tanisha Moncrief will be speaking to Mena High School JAG students on Tuesday, April 5th. The presentation is a part of the G.R.I.T. at Work Career Readiness Initiative.
The G.R.I.T. acronym stands for
GROWTH- I will get better each day.
RESILIENCE- I will overcome setbacks & disappointments.
INTENTIONALITY- I will plan for my success by being motivated and having routines.
TENACITY- I will put forth the maximum effort. I will not quit.
The Moncrief's have a goal of impacting low income and at-risk youth.
* Promote & amplify the importance of graduating from high school.
* Increase students' understanding of entrepreneurship and career opportunities.
* Enhance sought after soft skills that contribute to economic stability.
* Teach leadership principles associated with workplace readiness.

Congratulations to Austin Rose for being our Matt Thomas - State Farm Agent player of the week for week 3 of our season. Austin was 6/10 on the week with 4 RBI’s and a couple of runs scored. Also pitched 7 innings for us giving up 4 runs and on defense had 13 putouts with a 2 double plays.


Mena Jr. and Sr. High Ladycat Basketball had their first Spring Ladycat Night on Tuesday. The girls competed in a Freethrow Contest and 5 on 5. Local businesses have sponsored prizes for the winners. Tonight's sponsors were Wendy's, Chiquitas and Simple Simons.

Mrs. Brown and Mrs Taylor’s class at Louise Durham had a visitor today. A velociraptor came to help us learn about the letter "V".


Ashley Curbow, Coordinator for the Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Program, is presenting on the dangers of tobacco use and vaping to 7th graders at Mena Middle School. MMS 8th graders will receive the presentation on Wednesday.

Austin Rose and Jarret Burger won the Arkansas Young Guns Open Tournament on Lake Ouachita Saturday with a string weighing 12.38 pounds. They also had the big bass that weighed in at 3.28 pounds!

Congratulations to Mrs. Lana Coogan & the Mena High School Bearcat Bellas! The Bellas made a Division I Superior rating at CPA on Friday in Hot Springs. They will be competing at the State Competition on Tuesday, April 5th!

The Matt Thomas - State Farm Insurance Baseball Player of the Week !
The 2/28-3/6 Player of the Week was CALEB PETERS.
Caleb pitched well in the Smithville win and picked up the save. Peters also hit .500 on the week with 6 runs scored and 5 RBI’s
The Player of the Week for 3/7-3/11 is BLAKE BROWN. Blake came in relief in a tied game with Hope and pitched 4 innings giving up 0 runs while striking out 8 batters. Blake was also 2/4 at the plate with 2 RBI’s in the 7-2 Hope victory
The player of the week for 3/14-3/18 will be announced after spring break.


Mena Middle School 8th graders attended Career Day at the University or Arkansas Rich Mountain on Friday.
