The first day of marching fundamentals began Monday at Mena High School. Students we're out early this morning to avoid the hottest part of the day.

Special education teachers and para professionals continue preparation for 2022/2023. Mena hosted Dalene Magsam and Debbie Ware with Easter seals who presented the SpED update on Thursday in the Mena High School library.

The Ladycats finished tied for 3rd at the Branson volleyball camp. A great showing at a huge camp. Katie Valdovinos was named to the all-camp team. The team will compete at a camp in Greenwood on Monday. GO LADYCATS!!!

Literacy instructors Lynn Ashley, Sheli Chaney, Alicia Faringer, and Amy Martin from Mena Middle School attended New Hampshire Literacy Institute to work on writing and reading engagement with experts in essential literacy practices. Our teachers continue to prepare for the 2022/2023 school year which begins on Monday, August 22nd.

The Agriscience Department would like to sincerely thank Calvin and Brandon Cummings of Dons E-Z Pay for the donation of a brand new refrigerator for our Animal Science Lab! This will be a huge asset for our students!! Like so many other supporters in our community, the Cummings understand the value of agriculture education and the FFA program at Mena Public Schools.

Mena administrators are attending the Arkansas Association of Educational Administrators Annual Summer Conference this week. The theme for the event is is Love Public Education - Changing the Narrative. GO BEARCATS!

The MHS Bearcat Band percussion section came together for the first time on Tuesday in preparation for the 2022 marching season. Marching fundamentals begin on Monday, August 1st for all MHS band members.
The Mena Bearcats hosted a team camp on Tuesday at Bob Carver Bearcat Stadium. Teams competing included Mt. Ida, Mansfield. Horatio, Hackett & Dierks.
Fall camp begins on Monday, August 1st & the Bearcats season opener is on Friday, August 26th at DeQueen.

Day 1 in the books for the Sr. & Jr. High Ladycats at the Licking Volleyball Camp in Branson. Both Sr. teams finished the day with an exciting win in their last match and improved as the day went on. Action continues on Tuesday. GO LADYCATS!!!

1st grade teachers as well as Pete Rose, and Curtis Black visited the Polk County Senior Citizen Center recently. We had a great time with live music, delicious food, and creating new friendships! Thanks again to everyone at the Center for allowing us to visit and for being so welcoming.
