Read Across America Week came to a close on Friday & Louise Durham Elementary celebrated their love of reading with dress up days, read alouds, book challenges & more.
Students were challenged to read 3,000 books this week & they crushed it by completing 6,306 books. The leading classes in each grade were Ms. Warren's class in 2nd grade, Ms. Todd's class in 1st grade & Ms. Sirkis' class in Kindergarten.
A student from each grade got to throw a pie in the face of Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Holder & Coach Rose.
It was a fun week! We fell in love with new characters, started new series, laughed and grew as readers.
We believe today a reader tomorrow a leader.

Mena Coaches select #11, Madi Lyle, and #32, Toby Watkins, as the Farm Bureau Insurance Players of the Month for February.
Madi is a Junior, Guard, for the Lady Cats and is the daughter of Brad and Linda Lyle. In February, Madi averaged 6 points, 5
assists, and 2 steals per game. She also plays on the volleyball and golf teams for MHS. She runs her own part-time business,
selling items online, through EBay. Madi plans to attend college and become a Math Teacher.
Toby is a Junior, Forward, for the Bearcats and is the son of Tewayne and Paula Watkins. Toby averaged 12 points, 5 rebounds, and
2 assists per game in February. Toby is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys fishing and all types of hunting, but especially hunting feral
hogs with his dogs. After graduation, Toby hopes to attend welding school in Tulsa, then come back and work in his family’s logging business.
Shown presenting Madi and Toby with their game balls are local Farm Bureau agent, Nathan Fowler, and Bearcat Head Coach, Randy
Peters.
Farm Bureau Insurance is a proud supporter of Mena High School athletics!!
