Reminders:
Parent / Teacher Conferences are Wednesday, 3:30 – 6:30, in the MMS Cafeteria. Mid-Term Progress Reports will be handed out.
The Jr High Lady Cats and Bearcats will host DeQueen at Rackley Gymnasium tonight for their last home games of the season. The first game will tip off at 4:30.
The flu has started to hit in our community. Keep your hands washed and don’t touch other people or their stuff.

Parent Teacher Conferences at Mena Middle School & Mena High School will be held this Wednesday, February 5, after school from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Thank you Mena Mayor, Seth Smith for the signing of a proclamation for Feb. 3-7,2020 as National School Counseling Week. The Mena School Counselors were recognized at the HHE Bearcat Eyes Are Watching Pep Assembly on Friday, Jan. 31st. for the extraordinary difference they make in our schools

If you get a ball out of the ball box and take it outside, it is your responsibility to return it after lunch. Because there were 3 balls left outside during Lunch “A” yesterday, the ball box will remain locked today during Lunch “A.”

Our district AMI Assignment Completion Day percentage was 98.55%.
Our required goal was 90% completion.
Since our district learners exceeded the required percentage, we will be able to use our AMI Day 1 as a school day.
Our last day of school is still Friday, May 22nd.

Mena School District was represented proudly at the 6th grade quiz bowl at UA Rich Mountain on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2020. Our 6th grade Gifted and Talented students won 1st place after a long eventful day. We are very proud of our students and their hard work definitely paid off. These students were not only able to display their vast array of knowledge but they also encouraged each other throughout the day. They truly displayed the Bearcat pride. The Mena School District is working with the Division of Elementary & Secondary Education to implement a framework developed by Marzano Research called High Reliability Schools. As part of this process we are collecting feedback from parents, staff, and administrators through an online survey administered by the Hanover Research firm. Survey responses will be anonymous and data will only be reported as a group. Surveys are available starting Tuesday, January 28th and closing Friday, February 14th.
You will see two questions in this survey that ask whether you are a European Union citizen or are currently located in the European Union (EU). Hanover Research is required to ask these questions to comply with the General Data Protection Regulation, a new EU policy that gives citizens and others traveling in the EU greater control over their personal data.

From Mrs. Rose: Today ACHIEVE teachers will hand out the Kindness Challenge check off sheets. Work hard this week to check off as many kind acts as possible. Kindness sheets are due back to your ACHIEVE teacher by Friday. All sheets that are returned with some kind acts will be entered into a prize drawing. We will have multiple prizes for each grade. One of the prizes is a free pass to our next dance! Be kind this week in all that you do.

Alternate Method of Instruction (AMI):
You have until next Wednesday to complete AMI work assigned for our missed day.
If 90% of the students in our district complete the assignments by next Wednesday, we will not be required to make up the day we missed.
Check with all of your teachers today if you have any questions about your AMI work.

At this time, 8th grade GT students need to go to the Conference room.
Mena MIddle School 8th graders arrive at Mena High school for an orientation today.The students will be familiarized with the campus & will hear about various programs in preparation for their move to MHS.next year.
Due to inclement weather, Mena Public Schools will be closed Wednesday, January 22nd.
The district will use the 1st Alternative Method of Instruction (AMI) Day approved by the State.
Please follow the AMI Day procedures for your child’s building and grade level.
Students will have the opportunity to complete their assignments on the day missed or when school resumes.
Attendance will be calculated by the successful completion of the assignments.
If 90% or more of the students complete their required learning expectations for the AMI Day, the day will not have to be made up at the end of the year.
