My name is Kathy Smith.
I hold a Bachelor of Science in applied mathematics and a minor in German from the University of Iowa and a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Southern Arkansas University. I learned to call the Hogs in Nepal where I served as a Peace Corps volunteer from 1991-1993.
I have worked in the finance, biotechnology, and logistics industries. After homeschooling my 5 children for several years, I returned to public education.

Hi, my name is Amy Montgomery and I am excited to be joining Mena Public Schools as the new Assistant Principal at Mena High School and AE Director. I obtained my Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Henderson State University and my Master of Science in Education from Arkansas State University. I just finished 20 years in education with 14 years spent teaching mathematics, 3 years as a K-12 Mathematics Instructional Facilitator, and 3 years as a Curriculum Director. I enjoy spending time with my two children, Luke and Avery.

Good day of work at Pottsville today for the Junior High Bearcats! A lot of reps against a lot of different teams! We are proud of this group!


2021 Mena High School graduate SAM EFIRD has been offered a baseball scholarship at Ouachita Baptist University. Sam will be signing with OBU on Monday, July 19th at 12:30 in the Union Bank Center. Efird was a multi-sport athlete at MHS. and earned all conference honors in baseball, basketball & football.


The Mena Jr. Girls have been competing in the Jessieville Team Camp on Wednesday & Thursday. Judging by those smiles they have had a successful outing... GO LADYCATS!!!!

Some much needed shade has been added to the playground for students at Louise Durham Elementary to enjoy in 2021/2022. The first day of school will be Monday, August 16th.

The Mena Public Schools are excited to welcome a number of new teachers in 2021-2022. One of those is ABI TILLEY at Louise Durham Elementary.
Hi I am Abi Tilley. I just graduated from Henderson State University in May with a degree in Elementary Education. I am so excited to begin my teaching adventure in Kindergarten this year! Me and my husband, Caleb, have been married for two years and we are highly anticipating our 1st child’s arrival in September! My hobbies include playing music with my husband, spending time with family and friends, and anything crafty. I am extremely honored to be able to teach in Mena. I’m looking forward to what this year has in store!

Mena Public Schools is in search of a secondary Vocal Music Instructor. This position would be in charge of the Choir program from grades 6-12 and teach 4 levels of choir, 6th grade, 7/8 grade, HS choir, and HS ensemble as well as HS Music appreciation.
Mena Public Schools is also searching for a Secondary English Teacher.

Little Cats Cheer Camp MHS Saferoom
July 30-31st
Camp A: 6th - 9th grade (2021-2022)
9am-3pm
Cost: $30 per Student
Concessions will be available.
No awards will be given this year as we hope for this camp to be fun and help build
cheerleading skills because our focus is to encourage and develop a strong
Mena Cheer program.
Athletes should bring their own lunch for each day.

Hello, my name is Reagan Peters. I graduated from Southern Arkansas University this past May with my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. I will be teaching 6th-grade math at Mena Middle School, and I am thrilled to work with the staff at Mena Middle School. I recently got married over the summer, and I love sports. I spend a lot of my free time in a gym or outdoors with my family. I am so thankful to be a part of Mena Public Schools. Go Ladycats and Bearcats!

Hello! My name is Shannon Lyle and I am excited to be the high school counselor! I began my post-secondary work at Arkansas Tech University, completing my B.S. in Mathematics Education in 1996. I obtained a M.S. in School Counseling from Henderson University in 2013. I also have building level administration certification. I have 21 years of experience in public school education. That experience ranges from math teacher to school principal, both at the high school level.
I am blessed beyond measure to be happily married with two sons and a step-daughter. I am honored to be a part of Mena High and I am looking forward to getting to know the high school students, helping them navigate this exciting phase of their lives, and assisting them on their journey into the next phase of career, college and life!
