
The Mena Softball Team won their first game of the season at the Ashdown Tournament on Saturday. A convincing 10-0 victory over Foreman. The Ladycats return to play on Tuesday against Hope at Union Bank Park in Mena. GO LADYCATS!


Mena Softball lost their season opener 12-0 at the hands of Booneville in the Ashdown Tournament Friday Afternoon.
The Ladycats fell to Bradley 14-10 in round two on Friday night & will play again on Saturday morning at 11:00am.

What a great way to end Read Across America Week! Mrs. floyd's first grade class got to celebrate another great reader who read 100 new words. Then Joseph read so many books this week, he was chosen to throw a pie in Coach Rose’s face and our whole class was invited to watch!

Jessica Kropp's 7th period theatre class presented Shakespeare themed skits for the 9th grade English classes at Mena High School on Friday 3/5/21.


The Mena Ladycats have advanced to the 4A South Regional Tournament Championship Game by defeating Watson Chapel on Friday morning by a score of 40-38. Mena will play the winner of the Star City/Nashville game on Saturday at 4:00pm in Star City. GO LADYCATS!

Mena Baseball played their home opener on Thursday. Waldron defeated the Bearcats 6-4. Mena will look for their first win when they play Mt. Ida on Friday at 4:30pm at Union Bank Park.

Congratulations to Autumn Lockhart and Kaylee Noble. Both applied and were accepted to participate in this year's Girls of Promise Conference. Girls of Promise, an initiative of the Women’s Foundation of Arkansas, exposes girls to opportunities and mentors in STEAM fields. GOP has the goal of increasing the number of women in higher-level STEAM courses, careers and putting them on the path to achieving economic security as women. The Girls of Promise Conference is open to 8th-grade girls who are interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math in Arkansas! Students will spend multiple days learning about various STEAM careers, enhancing their skills, and meeting women mentors excelling in their fields. The conference will be held virtually, April 1 and 2. If you see these two ladies give them a virtual high five!

Thursday, March 4 th
I. This grading quarter ends one week from tomorrow. Make every effort to get all of your
assignments completed before report cards are issued.
II. Next Monday, March 8 th , the Pennies for the Plunge campaign will begin. Its purpose is to
raise money for the Special Olympics. Each ACHIEVE teacher will have a collection jar in
their classroom. Students are encouraged to fill the jars with as many pennies (or any type
of currency), as often as possible. The contest ends on March 18 th . Whichever ACHIEVE
class collects the most money will win a donut party.
III. Students, if you receive unwanted emails on your school account, please do not reply to it
as this simply complicates the issue. Also students, you are not to send emails to other
students, either individually or to a group, unless it is approved by and directed by a
teacher.
IV. Tomorrow during ACHIEVE, the following students will have their photo taken for the

Mena Coaches have selected #1, Brooklyn Pennington, and #2, Tre’ McMellon, as the Farm Bureau Insurance Players of the Month for January.
Brooklyn is a 5’8”, Sophomore, Forward for the Lady Cats. In January, she averaged 11 Points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals per game.
Brooklyn is the daughter of Tom and Kristi Hunter and she hopes to continue her basketball career at the collegiate level, after graduation from MHS in 2023.
Tre’ is a 5’8”, Junior, Point Guard for the Bearcats. In January, he averaged 8 points, 5 assists, and 2 steals per contest.
Tre’ is the son of Jennifer and Chris McMellon and plans to become an electrician after completing his high school education, next year.
