Tuesday, February 2 nd
I. 7 th & 8 th grade Quiz Bowl teams will have practice in the Cafeteria right after these
announcements.
II. 7 th grade ETS students will be meeting tomorrow during ACHIEVE.
III. We are having an increase in vandalism in the restrooms. If any of you have witnessed
anyone doing this (writing on the walls, stuffing paper towels in the sinks or toilets, etc)
please let the office know. You will remain anonymous.
IV. There are still quite a few of you that are repeatedly being told to wear your mask. If these
repeat violations continue, a parent will be contacted. If you are in athletics, your coaches
will also be notified. Please wear your mask and wear it properly. It is for your protection,
the protection of others, and is a requirement to attend school this year.

Kili and Annabelle surprised a classmate at MMS by hiding presents for her in Ms Williamson’s classroom. Thank you Kili and Anabelle your kindness matters!


Mena Middle School student Quinn Dahlem is working as a blended student this year. During the kindness challenge last week Quinn served his mom pizza with an encouraging note.Thank you Quinn for your kindness!

The HUB is now taking applications for the 21-22 school year. If you are an upcoming senior graduating in 2022 and would like to apply for the HUB program, please fill out an application and return them to Mrs. Threlkeld in the HUB, Room 111. If you plan to work your senior year and would like to attend The HUB, please also fill out the AE JAG application form. Applications and HUB expectations were emailed to the Class of 2022 students on Tuesday. Please email Mrs. Threlkeld or stop by Room 111 with any other questions.

January is the final chance to order your personalized copy of the 2021 MHS Yearbook.
The FBLA District Spring Leadership Conference will be held Wednesday, February 10th on the Mena High School campus. Please see Mrs. Torix to pick up a permission slip. They need to be returned by this Wednesday, February 3rd.
Signups for the 2021-2022 Cheerleading programs are still taking place. If you wish to try out for the sideline team, competition team, or Beary the mascot, please see Coach Hughes in room 315. If you have already signed up, make sure you have joined the Google Classroom for more information.
For anyone who has not turned in their yearbook application to apply for the 2021-22 Yearbook staff, today is the final deadline to be considered. Please return your applications to Mr. Philpot’s room 205 before the end of the day today.
JAG Applications are now available for the 2021-22 school year for next year’s seniors and juniors. Online applications are at karenpurvis.wixsite.com/mhsjag. You can pick up a printed application from Karen Purvis (room 403), and from your enrichment teacher. Completed applications are due back by the end of the day on Monday, February 8. A survey has been sent to all Enrichment teachers to discuss what they would like for their Enrichment team name to be for the upcoming cornhole tournament. Now is the time for Enrichment classes to be discussing their preferred team names, and once submitted, the Journalism 2 class will create a team name banner to hang above the classroom doorway.

I. Mrs. Sims is out today so there will be no 6 th grade Quiz Bowl practice today. 7 th & 8 th grade
Quiz Bowl teams will have practice tomorrow.
II. This is a reminder about our phone policy. You are allowed to use your phones and
personal devices outside only, before school, during lunch, and after school. Quite a few of
you are using your phones inside the building. Do not risk losing your phone privileges or
being sent to ISS for repeat violations.
III. 7 th grade ETS will be meeting this Wednesday during ACHIEVE.
IV. Reminders:
Keep your Chromebooks charged at home each evening.

Congratulations to Mena High School student Olivia Betz for being a Regional Gold Key Award Winner in the Comic Art Category of the 2021 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.
The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards give young people opportunities for recognition, exhibition, and publication of their writing and art, as well as chances for scholarships.

The Southwest Region in which Olivia was competing includes 7 states. Her Comic Art submission was the only Comic Art submission in our region that qualified for the Gold Key award, their highest award. And this allows her to now compete nationally.

Kindness is a gift we can all afford to give, and kindness begins with an understanding that we all struggle and we all have needs. Wherever there is another person, there is an opportunity for kindness and to make a difference. Mena High School is recognizing Kindness Week from January 25-29, and encouraging everyone to find as many ways to be kind to others throughout the week. People don’t always remember everything you say to them, but they’ll never forget how you made them feel. Treat everyone with kindness.
