Announcements for Thursday, November 14th Reminders: The FBLA March of Dimes Fundraiser is tomorrow…For a $1 donation you can wear a hat all day and you can purchase hot chocolate during lunch. BADD members see Mrs. Rose about Monday’s Smoke Screen Movie. 8th grade ETS will meet on Monday during ACHIEVE. Picture retakes are next Wednesday. We will attend the Senior Play next Wednesday. You can pay your $2 to your 1st period teacher beginning Monday. The Thanksgiving meal will be served in our cafeteria next Wednesday. The Mena High School Theatre Department will present their public performances of "The Yellow Boat" this Saturday & Sunday at the Performing Arts Center.... We will see you there!

Mena eighth grade GT students participated in the Ashdown Invitational Quiz Bowl on Nov. 13. There were 11 teams. They faced Dierks, Nashville , and Prescott before lunch and were seeded number 6 after lunch. The team played Prescott after lunch and played a close game, with Prescott winning by only 20 points. I'm so proud of the effort they put in!

Announcements for Wednesday, November 12th Reminders: Parent/Teacher Conferences are tonight from 3:30 – 6:30, in the MMS Cafeteria. Mid-Term Progress Reports will be handed out. The sign-up sheet for ID cards is on the podium at the front office. The first card is free. If this is your second card this year, it will cost $3. The Thanksgiving Meal will be served in our Cafeteria one week from today. For $18 you can still order an EAST T-Shirt. Orders are due Friday. Make checks out to Mena EAST. 7th grade GT students going to Ashdown need to be in the MMS Cafeteria tomorrow morning before 7:00 a.m. Also, you need to bring a lunch, along with your signed permission slip. Be sure and get the classwork you will miss tomorrow. There are two events happening one week from today. Next Wednesday morning are picture retakes for those who want one. That afternoon, we will be going to the MHS Senior Play at the PAC. It will cost $2 per student. We will begin collecting your money next Monday. Lunchtime Weather: If you have appropriate winter clothing, you will have the option of going outside during lunch today. You do have the option of staying inside, if you want to. Students you must get a juice and/or fruit at breakfast. Students, please remember, you have to have money in your account to buy extras. Do not get extras unless you pay for it first. Lunch A students: If you are acting inappropriately in the library during lunch, you’ll be asked to return to the cafeteria. If overall behavior does not improve, the library will be closed for Lunch A indefinitely. Students are not to be in the hallways during Lunch A or Lunch B. Those who don’t want to attend will go to the library. AE is hosting a food drive for God’s Feeding Hands Ministry through November 15. If your Enrichment class elects to participate, please bring a canned good to your Enrichment class. The class that donates the most, will receive a pizza party provided by AE. Mrs. Jackson's class is in the lead for the most food brought for the Food Drive! She has a total of 44 cans! Keep up the great work! Senior Seminar Wednesday @ 5:30 pm in library. Attention Sci-Fi Club Students. We are having a group picture for the yearbook taken during Enrichment today. Come down if you have paid your dues, even if you are scheduled to be elsewhere during Enrichment. You can return to your assigned E-Squared or Flex location after the picture.

MMS Receives Math Award! Dear Principal Sherrer and Superintendent Weston, Congratulations! MENA MIDDLE has been recognized by the Office for Education Policy (OEP) at the University of Arkansas as a school that is Beating the Odds, because students demonstrated high growth on the ACT Aspire even though the school serves a high percentage of students who participate in Free and Reduced Lunch! As you may know, the OEP creates an annual report entitled the Outstanding Educational Performance Awards, recognizing schools with high student growth. We think growth is the best indicator of the positive impact that your school is having on students. In our Beating the Odds report to be released tomorrow, MENA MIDDLE received the following award: "Beating the Odds" High Math Growth: Middle Level (Southwest Region) We provide badges for placement on your school’s website (attached), and a personalized paper award will be sent to the district later this school year. Awards are based on the 2019 content growth score calculated by the Arkansas Department of Education. These growth scores reflect how much students at the school improved from 2018 compared to how much they were expected to grow considering prior achievement. We recognize schools based on Overall growth, as well as for growth in Math and English Language Arts separately. The Mena Jr. teams played at Greenwood Tuesday.. The JV Girls lost 17 to 32...The Varsity Girls lost 19 to 34 & the Varsity Boys! Lost 42-51... The Jr. Teams play at Lake Hamilton on Thursday.

Logan Myers has been named all state & will represent Mena in the River Valley All Star Meet for Western Arkansas Saturday 11/16 at Mansfield High School! GO LOGAN!!!

The Mena Ladycat Basketball Team will compete in the Robinson Invitational next week. The first game is Monday 11/18 at 5:00pm... GO LADYCATS!!!

Fans are welcome to gather in the Bearcat Stadium parking lot TO cheer the team as they head to Gosnell for the first 4A State Playoff game.. GO BEARCATS!!!

Today during ACHIEVE, students who had all “A’s” on their first report card will be called out to get their honor roll reward. Any student that needs an ID card needs to come by the office and sign the list either during ACHIEVE, between classes, or at lunch. The list is located on a podium near the main office. The Student Council will meet with Mr. Sherrer today in the Conference Room right after these announcements. To the GT Students from Mrs. Moore: 8th grade GT students need to be in the MMS Cafeteria tomorrow morning before 7:00 a.m. Also, you need to bring a lunch, along with your signed permission slip. The first basketball games of the season were played at the Union Bank Center Monday night.. The first game saw the Mena Jr. Girls beat Mt. Pine 48-14. The Mena Jr. Boys beat the Red Devils 47-38 & the Mena Sr. Girls also won by a final score of 48-10... The Jr. Teams play at Greenwood on Tuesday & the Sr. Girls play at the Robinson Invitation on 11/18, 11/20 & 11/23..

Upcoming Events This Week: Tonight – There will be 4 Jr High basketball games at the UBC at MHS tonight beginning at 5:00. Friday: The Mena Bearcats Sr High football team will travel to Gosnell for the first round of the 4-A State playoffs. From Mrs. Sikes: FBLA members be sure and read your FBLA Google Classroom announcement. Mena Middle School FBLA is having a fundraiser on Friday for March of Dimes. On that day, students will be able to wear their favorite cap or hat to school for $1 donation. You will also be able to purchase a cup of hot chocolate at lunch on Friday for $1.00. The $1 donation for wearing the hat will be turned in to your 1st period teacher on Friday. Also, right after these announcements, Mrs. Sikes needs to see Caroline Cannon, Hailey Emerson, Makayla Vega, Elaina Aleshire and Jocelyn Hernandez.
